Takeuchi Keiichi - TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMAKER | Taito Official 。These combs are traditional Japanese boxwood combs (known as tsuge-kushi) specifically designed for styling complex, traditional hairstyles like Nihongami worn by geisha, maiko, and brides. Each unique shape serves a highly precise function in partitioning, detailing, smoothing, and sculpting hair layers. Left & Second Left (Sujitate-kushi): These specialized \"set-up\" vertical combs feature a distinctive broad top and a long, pointed tail-end. The fine teeth are utilized to smooth out tiny stray strands or apply styling wax, while the long tail acts as a precise pick to separate, lift, and partition sections of hair. 6.3/4” & 5” Middle (Afro Pick/Fork Style): This style functions as a hair pick used to lift and add essential volume to the structured base layers. The close-up image reveals a crisp, incised diamond outline stamped directly onto the shoulder. This geometric hallmark is the traditional signature of Jusan-ya, a renowned, family-run artisan workshop based in Kyoto that has been hand-crafting elite boxwood (tsuge) combs since 1875. ✨ 5 3/4” Right (Bindashi-kushi): A vertical comb crafted with deep, dense parallel tines. Master hairdressers use this to cleanly draw and comb out the side wing blocks (bin) or rear sections of traditional hair ensembles, creating smooth, uniform lines. 8” Very good condition: warm aged patina, been in storage for a century.
